Motor vibration condition monitoring with an industrial Raspberry Pi and FFT
Mechanical faults can change a motor's vibration signature before the equipment stops. Trend monitoring offers a practical starting point for maintenance teams.

PiLink — Failure Prediction System Demonstration (Vibration)
PiLink demonstrates an industrial Raspberry Pi PL-R4 and accelerometer in a wireless configuration, including acceleration waveforms, FFT, trends, measurement triggers and alerts.
A realistic small-scale deployment
Instrument one or two critical motors or pumps. Establish baseline measurements across normal speeds and loads, then monitor changes over several weeks.
FFT converts time-domain vibration measurements into frequency components. Interpreting them still requires machine specifications and on-site verification.
Engineering checks
Sensor mounting, sampling frequency, noise and rotation speed matter. Condition monitoring is not a guarantee of accurate time-to-failure predictions.
